Getting Ready for Baylor

We have been slowly getting ready for Baylor this summer. We have his room pretty much finished. We have plans to install the infant car seat this evening. We have diapers, wipes, and his clothes. And, I have finally finished sewing all 8 of his custom burp cloths!! :)

Lime Tree

I remember going over to Dustin's Wyatt grandparents' (Poppy and DeDe) house for lunch occassionally while we were in high school. They would usually have a salad before the meal, and they always had limes cut and out on the table to add to tea or water. But, I was a little surprised the first time I saw that. Their limes were orange! They had a lime tree in their side yard that was given to them when it was only a small plant by someone who had gotten theirs from Mexico (if I remember the story correctly). They taste just like normal limes, but they're orange. How cool is that?

 

Fast forward many years... Dustin and I get married, and the very next year, we move to a rental house in New Braunfels.

 

Upon that move, Poppy gave us a small pot with just a tiny little plant inside. It had a small amount of leaves and was only a few inches tall. He told us it was from his and DeDe's lime tree. What a nice gift!

So we had that little plant in the small pot at our rental house. Within a year, I had graduated college, and we were ready to buy a house. We bought our home in early 2008, and later that year, we were expecting a baby! Meanwhile, our little lime tree had outgrown the small plastic pot Poppy had given it to us in. We went out and bought a larger pot and had the lime tree on the front porch of our new house. Our tree was doing so well that I wanted to take a picture of it to show Poppy and DeDe. And then, I thought it would be fun to pose in front of the tree so that not only could we show the tree's progress to Poppy and DeDe, but we could one day show the picture to Southern and he could see just how small that tree was when I was pregnant with him.

Pretty soon our lime tree even outgrow the larger pot. It was time to plant. Unfortunately, Poppy passed away before we could do another pregnant picture in front of the lime tree (I was only 7 weeks along with Remington when he passed), but I thought DeDe would certainly enjoy seeing our lime tree. And, again, I thought it would be fun for our boys to see it's growth measured against theirs.

35 Weeks

I am 35 weeks along, and I had my weekly visit with my doctor today. One of the things she first said to me was, "at this point, if you go into labor, we won't stop you." Eek! That means if Baylor decides he is coming at any time, he WILL be coming!

My tummy measured 39 cm, and Baylor's heartbeat was 127.

Last week, at 34 weeks along, I went in to learn that I measured 37 1/2 cm, and Baylor's heartbeat was 141.

Not much longer now...

Celebrating Baylor

A friend of mine threw a small celebration for Baylor yesterday. It turned out very nicely. We had it at Sertino's here in New Braunfels (http://www.sertinosnb.com/). They have a private room where we all gathered. The food and drinks from Sertino's were very yummy as well as the cake!

I am so thankful for everyone who came. It really meant a lot to Dustin and me to see loved ones excited about Baylor's upcoming arrival. I have gotten so many mean comments with this pregnancy that I wasn't expecting, mostly from strangers, that it was really nice to have a group surrounding us that were looking forward to meeting our newest little guy. And I'm sure Baylor will look back on the pictures from yesterday and see the love.

32 weeks along

I am 32 1/2 weeks along right now, and I had another sonogram done at my doctor's appointment today. It turned out well.

The boys went with me, and since my appointment was during naptime, Remington fell asleep on the car ride over. He took his nap on the couch in the waiting room. So sweet! Everyone there loved him. Southern played with the legos, books, and toys in the waiting room. And Dustin was able to catch up on some internet researching (he proudly told me of the awesome mulch deck he found online for his mower) while I was in the back.

I started my appointment off with the sonogram. Baylor was so cute and was facing us perfectly when we first saw him today. Then he started putting his hands in front of his face. So we didn't get any pictures that were perfect, but we got some really cute ones.

The sonogram tech spent some time taking pictures, measuring the baby, and checking everything out to make sure he was healthy. From the measurements, she estimated that he is currently weighing a little over 5 lbs. She did find what she believed to be a fibroid on my uterus though. She explained that it is a large mass of hard tissue that would have been caused by the increased supply of estrogen during pregnancy. She didn't notice it at my 20 week sonogram, so she was a bit surprised by how quickly it had grown/developed. But since it is located high, it shouldn't be a problem at all.

I was then taken to the exam room where the nurse took my blood pressure. Everything was good there. Then I waited to see the doctor. She came in and asked me the usual questions. I hopped up on the exam table so she could measure me and feel on my tummy. She told me not to worry at all about the maybe-fibroid and also not to worry about Baylor's weight. She said he's in the 60th percentile and that we didn't need to worry until he was over the 90th. She said that his estimated weight was just a week heavier than it should be, and we didn't need to worry unless it was over 2 weeks heavier.

So all looks good! We've got a big baby, but not big enough to worry about just yet. We're going back in two weeks.

Moving rooms



With #3 son on the way, we are changing a few things around in our house. Right now our big project is getting Remington moved in with Southern in Southern's room. It is the larger bedroom (it is about 4 ft longer), so Baylor will get the smaller bedroom and the two older boys will share for now. In order to put another bed and dresser in Southern's room and fit more clothes and shoes in his closet, a few things have to leave. The biggest thing and the first thing we got moved around was the white couch that was being used as a stuffed animal storage place. It's on it's way out now that Dustin built a "zoo" for all of Southern's and Remington's stuffed animals (more on that in a later post). With the couch moved, I was able to move the large wooden barn and toy storage chest to the opposite wall, under the windows. That left a big corner next to Southern's bed open.

Brothers happy to be sharing a room

Dustin and I built Remington's toddler bed (a birthday gift from DeDe) last night. We moved it into Southern's room, and then today I was able to move Remington's mattress and make his bed with his new dinosaur bedding (a birthday gift from Grammy). He was so excited about it. I told him it was his new bed, and so he kept saying "new beh" over and over as I was making the bed.

I can't wait until the rest of the room is finished! More soon to come - a new bookcase, a dresser, new curtains and curtain rod, wall décor, and the rest of Remington's toys and clothes...

Pirate Fest

To kick off the kids' summer reading program at the New Braunfels Public Library, they held a pirate fest this past Saturday. What fun!

They had their usual Friends of the Library Children's Book Sale. Remington picked out a book about a little elf and Santa Claus. Southern picked out a book on the planets. And they both wanted a Barney movie (Barney and the Halloween Party). Then we took advantage of the free face painting booth. Each boy picked out the painting that they wanted. Southern chose the dragon, and Remington chose the "nake".

 

We then participated in the Kid Print program held by the NBPD. Both of our guys had their fingerprints and photos taken. The information was then saved on a thumb drive along with their height, weight, address, phone number, etc. I'll keep that thumb drive in my purse just in case we ever need it.

 

After that, we headed over to the front of the library to listen to pirate music, eat popcorn and drink "grog", and have some fun with pirate games and crafts.

 



It was such a fun morning!
