Go Spurs Go

Southern is once again a part of the Spurs Junior League here in New Braunfels. He loves it, and so do I! It's so much fun going to the games. They started this season at the beginning of January with the first game in mid-January. They have practice every Tuesday afternoon and a game every Saturday morning with the last one being the first weekend in March. So our season is coming to a close.

Last year, he was on a co-ed kindergarten team. This year, his team is made of 1st and 2nd graders, boys only, and the backboard is raised a foot higher than last year. He's number 3, and there are ten boys on his team. They make sure each kid is able to play two quarters, but when there is a player or two absent on game day, some kids are able to play three quarters.

At the most recent game, Southern played the first three quarters. He made the first two points of the game by sinking two free throws. At half time, the score was 4-2 us. He then made another basket during the third quarter raising the score to 6-2 with 10:17 remaining in the last half. He was on fire! Parents of fellow teammates in the stands around me were turning to me and giving me compliments. And when Southern was on the bench during the last quarter, I saw a couple of the dads pat his back and congratulate him. The game ended at 12-2, and in the coach's talk after the game, he said they had played the best defensive game all year.
